How to Start Therapy at Hope For The Journey

Big-box agencies are good at scheduling fast — and too often get the match wrong. We take a little more time up front so you don't waste any on a bad fit.
Why the extra step

Less time wasted on the wrong fit.

Nia, our Client Care Coordinator, is dedicated to helping you understand your choices and make an educated decision about which therapist is best for you. When you talk with her, she'll quickly get a sense of your top priorities, let you know your options, and get you set up with an appointment.
She's there for any questions before your first appointment, and for administrative support throughout your treatment. And if we turn out not to be the best fit, Nia has a robust referral list and will point you in the right direction outside of Hope For The Journey.

Get the help you deserve

Get started in three steps.

1

Match with a therapist

Connect with Nia, our therapist matchmaker. She'll answer all your questions and get you scheduled.
2

Intake assessment

Share what you can about the past so your therapist can create a safe, effective plan tailored to you and your healing.
3

Your healing journey

We learn as we go what works best for you. We start by building skills to make therapy safe — then you heal whatever is holding you back.
Not sure you're ready?

Meet your therapist before you commit.

Feeling comfortable and confident with your clinician is one of the biggest indicators of success in counseling. Many of our clients want to avoid launching into their story — or investing financially — until they feel confident in their choice.
Nia is a matchmaking genius, but just like dating, what's good on paper doesn't always translate. So we offer an optional 30-minute consult with the therapist of your choice: meet, get a sense of how you connect, and work through any hesitation. At the end of those 30 minutes you'll know how you want to move forward.
What the consult is for
Meeting the therapist you're considering
Getting a feel for how you connect
Working through hesitations that are holding you back
Deciding your next step with confidence
Counseling tailored for you

No cookie-cutter therapy.

We value creativity and finding what works for you, so there are lots of ways to shape your treatment.

In-person sessions

Offices in Round Rock and Northwest Austin — wheelchair accessible and furnished with all body shapes and sizes in mind.

Online sessions

Video sessions have proven equally effective as in-person, with far more flexibility and comfort. Skip the commute and heal from home.

EMDR Intensives

The results of weeks or months of weekly therapy in just days. Set aside dedicated time to really move with a specific part of your work.

Walk & Talk sessions

If movement helps you, walk outside the office with your therapist or meet at a park. Many of our therapists offer it.
Online therapy in Texas

Worried online therapy won't work for you?

We've provided therapy online for years — yes, even before COVID-19 — so we're confident in both the quality of our services and the feeling of connection our clients love. Research has shown online therapy to be as effective in most cases as in-person therapy, and many people find they like it better.
As a team we've invested in extra training and consultation specifically on making online therapy effective. It's not uncommon to hear from clients who didn't think it would work for them that they now prefer it.
  • Can you do EMDR online? Yes — in the comfort of your pajama bottoms.
  • Can my young child get help online? Yes. We give parents the structure to make it work.
  • Can we do couples work online? Of course. It solves the scheduling problems of coordinating two calendars.
